Adriana Torquato formed her band in 1995, and their debut album 'Toca Raul' came out in 1997. The title track became something of an anthem in Brazil, nodding to the spirit of singer-songwriter Raul Seixas. The band's lineup included Cesar Moreira on lead guitar, Leo Cavalcanti on bass, and Carlos Ezequiel on drums, with Torquato handling lead vocals and rhythm guitar.
They followed up with albums like 'Cinema Mudo' in 1999 and 'Luz no Asfalto' in 2001, blending samba, rock, and pop. In 2003, Torquato faced a legal dispute with the Brazilian government over unpaid taxes, which threatened her career but didn't stop her from releasing 'Viva Raul' the next year.
Later albums included 'Adriana Torquato' in 2007, 'Minha Vida é um Samba' in 2010, and 'O Samba Não Morreu' in 2015. Her performances and lyrics sometimes drew criticism from conservative circles for their overt sexuality, but she kept pushing her own artistic vision. Beyond music, she's been an advocate for LGBTQ rights and social justice in Brazil.
