Adriane Januário is a Brazilian singer from Vitória, Espírito Santo. She leads the band Espírito Santo, which formed in 2007 with guitarist Bruno Silva, bassist Marcos Marinho, and drummer Thiago Rabelo. Their sound draws from traditional Brazilian rhythms and church music, with Januário's vocals at the center.
The band's name comes from their home state and a traditional hymn they reinterpreted. In 2010, their version of "Espírito Santo" drew criticism from some who felt they were commercializing sacred music. They released three albums between 2011 and 2017, starting with their self-titled debut.
Their music blends sacred and secular influences without leaning too hard on either category. Januário's voice carries the material, whether it's hymn adaptations or original songs. The arrangements are straightforward, built around her singing rather than complex instrumentation.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
