Adriano formed in Salvador, Bahia in the mid-1980s, led by vocalist Adriano Nascimento. They built a following with their live shows before breaking through nationally in 1997 with the single "Eu Vou Vencer." That song, with its straightforward message of perseverance, connected widely in Brazil and became their signature track.
Their sound worked within samba and pagode traditions, and they released albums like "Adriano" in 1987 and "O Pagode do Adriano" in 2005. Other songs like "Onde Está Você?" and "A Força do Amor" kept them on radio through the 2000s. They recorded a live album at Maracanã in 2000.
In 2008, Nascimento faced domestic violence allegations, which caused a public scandal and led the band to take a break. They returned to activity afterward. The core lineup included Nascimento on vocals with Bira on drums, Serginho on bass, Carlinhos on guitar, and Claudinho on keyboards.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
