Adriano Oliveira formed the band Corpo E Família in 1996 with other musicians in Porto, Portugal. The band's name translates to "Body and Family," which reflected their approach to music. Their early work included the song "Corpo E Família," which drew some criticism for its direct lyrics about sexuality.
Over time, Corpo E Família released several albums that moved from traditional Portuguese sounds toward more experimental territory. Their 2004 album "Outro Mundo" incorporated electronic elements. Other songs like "Eu Não Te Esqueci" and "Quando o Sol Brilhar Mais Forte" show the range of their catalog.
Oliveira remained the consistent member through various lineup changes, working with musicians like guitarist Pedro Moreira, bassist Hugo Ribeiro, and drummer João Correia. The band's music drew from Portuguese folk traditions and Cape Verdean rhythms that Oliveira heard growing up in Porto.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
