Affiance formed in Los Angeles in 2007, with Dennis Tvrdik on vocals, Brett Wondrak on guitar, Patrick Volz on bass, and Jordan Cannata on drums. They put out their debut EP 'Call to the Warrior' in 2009, a local release that gave them some early traction. Their first full album 'No Way Out' came out in 2012, followed by 'Blackout' in 2014 and 'The Abyss' in 2016.
Tvrdik's lyrics sometimes drew criticism for tackling sensitive topics, but the band kept writing what they wanted. They toured fairly regularly, playing shows across North America and Europe with bands like As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage. Their later albums included 'Legion' in 2019 and 'Bruised but Not Broken' in 2022.
The lineup shifted over time. By their later records, Mike Alvarez had joined on bass and Evan J. on drums. Songs like 'Bohemian' and 'Kings of Deceit' showed their mix of melodic metalcore with Tvrdik's clear, forceful vocals over heavy guitar work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
