Affliction formed in 2003 around vocalist and guitarist Cameron Smith and bassist Ethan Jones. They put out their first album, 'Echoes of the Damned,' in 2005. Guitarist Mark Wilson joined the following year.

Their 2007 album 'Sweet Darkness' gave them their most recognizable song. That track, along with others like 'New World' and 'Another Sacrifice,' became fixtures in their setlists. They kept recording through at least 2013 with albums like 'The Odyssey of Shadows' and 'Ashes to Ashes.'

Their sound had a heavy, raw quality from the start, with Smith's vocals and lyrics at the center. Wilson's guitar work added another layer to the arrangements. They built a following through steady touring in those early years.
