Afroditi Fryda is a band from Athens, Greece, led by vocalist Afroditi Fryda. They put out three albums between 2009 and 2015: 'History of Music', 'The Elements', and 'Modern Judgment'. Over that time, the lineup included George Papanikolaou on guitar and keyboards, Dimitris Nikolaou on bass, and Lefteris Sideris on drums.
Their song 'Kloun' came out in 2012. Its refrain, 'I am a clown, I wear a fake smile,' and its themes of disillusionment gave the band some international notice. The music tends toward trip-hop and electronica with a moody, introspective feel.
Some listeners found their experimental approach and lyrics about mental health or societal issues challenging. They developed a cult following, particularly for 'Kloun', but never quite broke into the mainstream.
