Afrosound formed in Havana in the late 1990s, led by vocalist and composer Juan de Marcos González. The group brought together musicians from various Afro-Cuban traditions, playing early shows at local nightclubs. Their sound drew from Afro-Cuban son, bolero, guaracha, and jazz.
Their 2000 album 'Mar de Emociones' became their breakout release, with the title track gaining particular attention. They've recorded other albums including 'Afro-Cubismo' in 1999, 'Distinto' in 2003, and 'Duets' in 2013. Their song 'Sabor Novideño' also appears among their notable tracks.
Over time, Afrosound has worked with other artists including Omara Portuondo and Calle 13. González has remained the consistent frontman through their recordings and performances.
