Afterclapp formed in Salvador, Bahia, taking their name from the street children in Jorge Amado's novel. Their 1996 debut album was titled 'Capitão de Areia,' which also became their most recognized song. The track paints a portrait of street children's struggles, set to a mix of punk energy and Brazilian rhythms.
Their sound started with punk rock but later incorporated reggae, funk, and traditional local styles. They released albums like 'Arrelia' in 2000 and 'Retratos da Rua' in 2007. Other songs in their catalog include 'Brlz' and 'Sonho de Vidro.'
Their lyrics often addressed social inequality, which sometimes led to friction with authorities during performances in Salvador. The band's lineup included Capitão de Areia on vocals, Antônio on guitar, Bruno on bass, Paulo on drums, and Xandão on percussion.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
