A.A.L (Against All Logic)

Against All Logic is the solo electronic project of Nicolas Jaar, who started it in 2018 with a self-titled debut album. The music tends toward immersive, abstract soundscapes, heard on tracks like 'Cityfade' and 'Fantasy.' Jaar had previously worked with David Harrington on the 2013 album 'Psychic,' which shared some of that experimental texture.

A.A.L has put out a few records since then, including '2017-2019' in 2020 and 'Illusions of Harmony' in 2022. The project is essentially Jaar's alone, though he has brought in other voices at times, like Noah Lennox and Lydia Ainsworth on vocals. The songs often feel like puzzles, 'Some Kind of Game' or 'I Never Dream' don't offer easy hooks, but they pull you into their own logic.

Listeners sometimes split over how approachable the music is, but Jaar doesn't seem to smooth out the edges. A 2023 mix called 'Fabric Presents Against All Logic' just continued in that vein, more about atmosphere than clear patterns. It's electronic music that feels built in a workshop, patient and a little mysterious.
