Agathodaimon started in Germany in 1995, part of the underground black metal scene of that decade. Their first album, 'Blacken the Angel,' came out in 1998 and drew some attention for its cover art, which showed a crucified angel. They kept going with albums like 'Higher Art of Rebellion' in 2001 and 'Serpent's Embrace' in 2004, the latter giving its name to one of their better-known songs.
Their sound shifted over time, moving away from pure black metal into more atmospheric and progressive territory. By 2014, with 'The Divine Inquisition,' they were working with slower, moodier textures. The band has had a lot of lineup changes, but a few key members have stuck around through most of it.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
