Agnaldo Amaral was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1935. He started performing in Copacabana nightclubs and became known nationally by the 1960s for his romantic ballads. His song 'A Epopéia de Uma Deusa Africana' was particularly popular.
He recorded songs like 'Rei Pelé' and '500 Anos de Brasil' that showed his range beyond just love songs. His music included samba and MPB styles, and he released albums throughout the 1960s, 1970s, and into the 1990s.
He kept performing despite occasional bans from television appearances. His catalog includes songs about São Paulo neighborhoods and samba traditions alongside his better-known romantic material.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
