Agnes Gomes came up in Rio de Janeiro, where she started writing songs early on. Her father was a guitarist, and she grew up listening to Brazilian MPB artists like Chico Buarque and Vinicius de Moraes.
In 2005, she put together a band with João Pedro on guitar, André Ramos on bass, and Rafael Rocha on drums. Three years later, her debut album arrived, and its lead single "A Máscara do Amor" became a radio hit. The song deals with the complicated sides of love, and it brought her a wider audience.
Some critics weren't sure about her vocal style at first, but she kept writing in her own way. Other songs from that period include "Adagio (Part 1)" and "Farol."
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
