Archive material and source history
Agrupación Marylin formed in 1995 in Barranquilla, Colombia, with Carlos Mario Puerta on lead vocals and accordion. They started playing local bars and clubs, working through some early skepticism about their approach to cumbia.
In 2000, the group faced plagiarism accusations around their song "Pa' Que Sepa." Several years later, in 2007, Puerta was involved in a car accident that resulted in a motorcyclist's death and led to his conviction for vehicular homicide. These events created difficult periods for the band.
Other members have included Jhonny Jimenez on tambora, Alberto Linero on congas, and Manuel Perez on guacharaca. Their recordings include songs like "Sin Sentimientos," "La Cumbia Cienaguera," and "La Pollera Colorá."
