Editor's note

Ahn Jae Wook's quiet Korean ballad catalog

The actor-singer's 1990s ballads like 'Pain' and 'Sarangeun Apeuda' still surface in Korean dramas and fan covers.

If you only check one, make it 'Pain'. 'Sarangeun Apeuda' is the other reliable one for that classic 90s Korean ballad feel.

His songs show up in Korean dramas decades after their release, which says something about how they stick. 'Pain' is the one you'll hear most often. They're straightforward emotional ballads that work as background music for a scene or a late-night listen.

He started releasing music in the mid-1990s while acting. The songs are mostly from that era, ballads like 'Chin Goo' and 'Dear'.

Ahn Jae Wook started his solo career in 2000 with the album 'Memories of You'. His second album, 'All About Eve', came out in 2001 and included songs like 'Sesangeul Gajin' and 'Chin Goo'. That title track became a hit in South Korea and across Asia, helping him gain recognition as a singer.

He was born in 1971 and has cited Freddie Mercury and George Michael as influences on his vocal style. In 2002, a car accident led to serious injuries and a break from performing. Later, in 2006, he had a public disagreement with the South Korean government over military service obligations.

Some of his other songs include 'Aways beside you', 'Mo Ijeo', and 'Neoreul Dalmaseo'. He hasn't released new music in recent years, but those earlier tracks still get played.
