Their self-titled debut album came out in 2001, mixing heavy metal with progressive and acoustic touches. That record found an audience in Finland's metal scene.
They followed it with albums like "Arkkitehti" in 2004 and "Mehiläisenpesä" in 2009, moving toward more experimental territory. The single "Aikapyörä" from 2006 drew some attention when its lyrics were read by a few listeners as having political overtones, though the band denied that interpretation.
Janne Wirman died in 2010. Aikakone's songs often circle themes of time and reflection, with tracks like "Alla Vaahterapuun" and "Carousel" showing their melodic side alongside the heavier riffs.
