Aishite formed in Tokyo in the early 2000s with Rei on vocals, Ryo on guitar, and Takeshi on drums. Their debut single 'Garota' came out in 2005 and found an audience in Japan with its bittersweet melody and lyrics about unrequited love.
In 2007, Rei was diagnosed with a vocal cord disorder that threatened her singing. She went through rehabilitation and eventually regained her voice. Around that time, some critics questioned whether the band's lyrics encouraged unhealthy relationships, though Aishite maintained they were exploring love's complexities.
Their music shifted after those early years. While 'Garota' and songs like 'Me Deixe Sonhar' defined their initial sound, later work showed more experimentation as they moved beyond that first phase.
