Aki Sirkesalo started in the 1980s with the band Ultra Bra, which had a following for its melodies and social commentary. He went solo in the early 2000s and worked with violinist Janne Hattula on songs like "Aika."
"Aika" became a well-known Finnish song about time passing. Sirkesalo's voice and Hattula's violin give it a particular sound. Other songs like "Äiti" and "Haava" show similar qualities in his solo work.
In 2003, Sirkesalo was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent treatment. He continued making music afterward.
