Akico formed in Tokyo in 2010 with four members: vocalist and guitarist Rika, bassist Akiko, keyboardist Akira, and drummer Toshi. Their name comes from the bassist. In 2013, they released the single "Flyout," which became popular in Japan and Korea.
They put out albums like "Aether" in 2014, "Aurora" in 2017, and "Celestial" in 2020. Their sound mixed pop, rock, and electronic elements, sometimes adding traditional Japanese instrumentation. In 2016, Rika had vocal cord nodules that led to some canceled shows.
