Akin formed in Istanbul in the early 2010s around founder Barış K, with vocalist Melis Danişmend and multi-instrumentalist Can Baydar joining to develop their atmospheric sound. Their debut album 'The Calm' came out in 2013, followed by 'Opium' in 2016, which included the track that became one of their most recognized songs.
Their music tends toward the introspective and somber, with songs like 'Opium' and 'A Dream Within A Dream' built around ethereal vocals and moody arrangements. Some listeners have found their work too dark, while others appreciate its emotional directness.
In 2018 they released a third album called 'Dreamers,' which showed them experimenting with different textures while keeping their core sound intact. Other tracks like 'Tudo Contra Mim' and 'Annabel Lee' continue in that vein of atmospheric, lyric-focused music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
