A Japanese singer-songwriter whose guitar-heavy songs defined late-80s anime series.
For a quick sense of his style, put on 'Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraya.' It's the one that still gets played at anime events.
If you watched certain anime in the late '80s, you probably heard Akira Kushida. His 1988 track 'Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraya' became the opening theme for that series, with its driving guitar riffs and his energetic vocal delivery. That song and others like 'Ginga no Taazan' gave those shows a specific, punchy sound that stuck with fans.
He started performing with his own band in Tokyo. After 'Sekai Ninja Sen Jiraya' in 1988, he kept writing and performing anime themes, including 'Dragon Ball Super - Ultimate Battle' and 'Nefuu Yarou Jaspion!'
