Al Jarreau was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1940. He moved to San Francisco early on, performing at local clubs before his 1975 album 'Glow' brought wider attention. His vocal approach mixed jazz, R&B, and pop, with songs like 'Mornin'' and 'We're In This Love Together' showing his range.
Jarreau's style often included scatting and vocal improvisation that could mimic instruments, heard on tracks like 'Take Five' and 'Moonlighting'.
He kept recording through the 2000s, working with the Metropole Orchestra on a 2008 project. Jarreau died in 2017 at age 76.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
