Alanzoka formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1982, playing samba at street festivals and local bars when the genre wasn't always welcome in mainstream Brazilian music. Their debut album 'Samba na Veia' came out in 1989, and songs like 'O Nome Dele É Alan' and 'Ódio!' became staples.
The band worked with artists like Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben Jor around that time. Their lineup included João Marcelo and Célio Rabelo on vocals, Moisés Marques on guitar, Luiz Cláudio on bass, and Jorge Doca on drums.
They kept recording through the early 1990s with albums like 'Coleção' in 1991 and a self-titled release in 1993. Other songs in their catalog include 'Beira do Riacho' and '67 Patinete'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
