Albert Préjean was born in 1894 in Enghien-les-Bains and started out as an actor before finding his way to music in the early 1920s. He sang in cabarets and recorded songs, developing a reputation for his baritone voice. By the 1930s, he was appearing in films while continuing to release music.
His most well-known song is probably "Mon premier amour," which became something of a standard. Other recordings from that time include "Amusez-vous (comme des fous)" and "Ballade de la vie agréable." His personal life and political views sometimes drew attention away from the music.
Préjean recorded over a hundred songs, working with musicians like René S. His material ranged from cabaret numbers to film music, and some of it has been covered by other artists since.
