Alcazar formed in Gothenburg in 1998 with Andreas Lundstedt, Magnus Carlsson, Tess Merkel, Annika Kjerrström, and Lina Hedlund. Their debut album 'Casino' came out the following year, establishing their disco-pop style. The group's biggest hit, 'Crying At The Discoteque,' became an international dance anthem that defined their sound.
Annika Kjerrström left the band in 2003 due to health issues, which led to some internal conflict and a temporary hiatus in 2004. They returned in 2007 and kept recording, putting out albums like 'Alcazarized' and 'Disco Defenders.' Alcazar represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, in 2003 and 2005.
Their catalog includes tracks like 'Harlem Nights,' 'Almost Famous,' and 'Baby Come Back' that maintained their dancefloor energy. In 2018, former member Andreas Lundstedt made bullying allegations against the band, which Alcazar denied.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
