Alcides Saleriano and Silmara came together in São Paulo in the early 1970s. Alcides was from the rural town of Tupã, while Silmara grew up in the coastal city of Santos. Their partnership combined Alcides's guitar and raw vocals with Silmara's soprano and experimental approach to songwriting.
In 1975, they released their debut single "Flor Carmim." The song's haunting melody and poetic lyrics gained them recognition across Brazil. They went on to record albums like "Trovadores Urbanos" in 1975, "Canções do Interior" in 1977, and "Flor de Cactus" in 1982.
Their work sometimes drew criticism for being unconventional or esoteric, but they also collaborated with musicians including Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, and Edu Lobo.
