Alcino Alves & Rossi formed as a duo in 1975, later expanding to include a bassist and drummer. They worked in the sertanejo style, building a following in rural Brazil despite some critics dismissing their approach as old-fashioned.
Their 1985 collaboration with Trio Parada Dura on "As Andorinhas" became their best-known song. The track about migrants missing home connected widely and became a regular feature at Brazilian gatherings. Other songs like "A Primeira Mulher" and "Quando a Saudade Aperta" also found their audience.
The group released about a dozen studio albums including their self-titled 1975 debut, "Louco de Amor" in 1980, and the 1985 album that featured "As Andorinhas." Their lineup typically featured Alcino Alves on vocals, Rossi on guitar, and Zé Henrique on bass.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
