Alcira Maranhão came from São Gonçalo, Maranhão in Brazil. She started singing in her local church and put out her first album, 'Meu Amor é Pra Jesus,' in 2003. Her song 'Jesus Vem' became particularly well-known in Christian circles.
Her music mixed Brazilian rhythms with worship styles. Later albums like 'Para Onde Vamos' and 'De Volta à Cruz' brought in more pop and rock sounds, along with songs such as 'Que Alegria Estou Sentindo' and 'Prepara o Altar.' Some listeners in conservative Christian communities questioned the use of drums and electric guitars in her work.
She kept recording into the next decade with albums like 'Som do Céu' in 2010.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
