Alejandro Ugalde came up in Monterrey, Mexico, where norteño and ranchera music shaped his early sound. He started playing guitar and writing songs that leaned into romantic themes, sometimes with a directness that drew criticism for being too suggestive. His debut album 'Contigo o Sin Ti' arrived in 1999, and its lead single 'Entre Sabanas y Besos' became a national hit, pushing him into wider recognition.

That song, along with tracks like 'Lo Volviste a Hacer' and 'Tan Mia,' anchored his following through the early 2000s. He kept recording albums like 'Amor de los Dos' and 'Sentimientos,' working with musicians such as Pepe Garza on guitar. In 2005, a legal dispute with his former label briefly halted distribution of his music, but he eventually resumed releasing work under his own control.
