A Raleigh band that mixed screamo with orchestral touches and graphic storytelling.
For their sound, start with 'Apology.' For their later, more narrative side, 'The Murderer' gives a good sense of where they went.
Alesana carved out a space in the mid-2000s post-hardcore scene with songs that weren't afraid to go dark. 'Apology' from their 2007 album 'The Emptiness' became a signature track, showing how they wrapped heavy emotional themes in a mix of screams and melody. They built a dedicated following around that specific, sometimes controversial blend.
They formed in Raleigh in 2004 and released their debut 'On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax' in 2006. After albums like 'The Emptiness' and 'A Place Where the Sun Is Silent,' founding vocalist Shawn Milke left in 2015, but the band continued with releases like 'Confessions' in 2018.
