In 2005, drummer Jordan Hastings died in a car accident. The band considered breaking up but decided to continue. That same year they released their debut album 'The Northern,' which drew attention for its aggressive approach and lyrical weight.

They followed with 'Watch Out!' in 2006 and 'Old Crows/Young Cardinals' in 2009. While some listeners found their music too abrasive, others connected with its emotional directness.
