Alkymia formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s with Roger Moreira on vocals, Bruno Gouveia on guitar, Luís Camargo on bass, and Marcelo Santos on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2000 and included the track 'Agora Ela É Minha Garota,' which became a hit in Brazil.
Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms like samba and bossa nova with rock elements. They released three more albums after that first one: 'Mantra' in 2003, 'Utopia' in 2006, and 'Agora' in 2010. Other songs from their catalog include 'Você Apareceu,' 'A Vida,' 'Amigo,' and 'Batuque-Cerveja e gandaia.'
In 2002, the band faced a plagiarism allegation over an unlicensed sample in one of their songs, which led to a legal dispute. They kept recording through that period, but the case was part of their story in the early 2000s.
