Archive material and source history
Allan Kennedy first appeared in Brazilian music in 1971 with his debut song "Um Drink." The track's upbeat melody and clever lyrics caught on nationally, making him a recognizable name in MPB circles.
This led to periods where his work faced censorship and he spent time outside the country.
Kennedy released more than twenty albums over his career, working in styles that included samba, rock, and pop. He collaborated with artists like Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, and Caetano Veloso. His band was called Allan Kennedy & Os Encantadores do Luar, with guitarist Luiz Carlos e Zé Ramalho among those who played in it.
He kept performing and recording into his later years. Allan Kennedy died on July 12.
