The Alley Cats were a Los Angeles vocal group that formed in the 1950s. Their 1958 single "Puddin' n' Tain" became a radio hit with its lighthearted, catchy groove.
Original members included Jimmy Jones on lead vocals, Edward "Bubba" Keith on tenor, William "Bill" Allen on baritone, Willie Dee on bass, and Henry "Junie" Morrison on drums. They released several albums through the 1960s.
Some radio stations found the lyrics to "Puddin' n' Tain" suggestive and refused to play it. As an African American group touring during that era, they also faced discrimination at venues and hotels.
