Almir Avlys formed in São Paulo in 2004 with Almir Vargas on vocals, Leandro Lago on guitar, Daniel Barbosa on bass, and Fernando Pires on drums. They put out their first album that same year, followed by others like 'Não Tenho Pressa' in 2006 and 'Pra Sempre' in 2008.
Their 2010 album 'Agora' gave them their biggest hit with the title track. The song 'Agora' got some attention in Brazil, though the band's sound was a mix of pop, rock, and MPB that never quite broke through internationally. They added keyboardist Marcelo Pelliccio at some point, keeping the core lineup otherwise intact.
Around 2014, they had some kind of dispute with a former member that led to a break. There were also some claims about plagiarism in their songs that stirred up talk in Brazilian music circles. They came back together and released 'Uma Nova História' in 2012, but never really recaptured the momentum of the 'Agora' period.
