Almir e Elias were a Brazilian duo who started performing together in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1970s. Almir Bezerra da Silva played guitar while his cousin Elias Silva handled vocals. Their first album came out in 1974, featuring the song 'Pai' which became widely popular.
Their music drew from samba and bossa nova traditions. Beyond 'Pai,' other songs like 'Deixa Chover Deixa Molhar' and 'Nosso Amor Já É Passado' found audiences. In 1978, Elias was arrested on drug charges, which disrupted their work for a time. Almir kept performing during that period and eventually helped secure his cousin's release.
Some of their lyrics touched on social issues, which brought them both supporters and critics. They continued making music together after Elias returned. The duo's recordings from the 1970s remain familiar to many Brazilian listeners.
