Archive material and source history
Almir Oliver was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947. He came up in the city's samba scene, eventually joining the group Fundo de Quintal in the late 1960s alongside his friend Jorge Aragão.
He went solo in 1977 with an album called "Clara Nunes." That record included "Brincadeira de Amor," a song that caught on and stayed in the Brazilian repertoire. He kept recording for decades, putting out albums like "Almir Oliver" in 1984 and "Samba de Primeira" in 2002.
Oliver had some personal struggles with alcohol, but he managed to keep working. He was still making music into the 2010s, releasing "Meu Canto É Samba" in 2012.
