Alsion formed in Milan in the early 2000s with vocalist Alessandra 'Sandy' Atzori, guitarists Luca Cabriolu and Enrico Fagnoni, bassist Dario Cattaneo, and drummer Stefano Chiarini. They play a style of melodic metal that draws from bands like Nightwish and Sonata Arctica, built around Sandy's vocals and the twin-guitar work of Cabriolu and Fagnoni.
They released four studio albums between 2004 and 2013, starting with 'Embrace the Rage' and including 'The Road to Infinity' in 2007. That second album helped them reach a wider audience outside Italy. Songs like 'Fiery Dragon' and 'Kings Of Alsion' became live staples, mixing heavy riffs with the kind of grand, melodic hooks common in European power metal.
In 2009, the band dealt with a legal dispute over their name, which they eventually resolved. They kept recording and touring through the early 2010s, with their final album 'Ascension' arriving in 2013.
