Alta Consigna formed in Mexico City in 1973, with vocalist León Muñoz leading the group. They built their sound around tropical music, and by 1979 they had released the album "Con Toda La Fuerza." That record included "El Convoy Del Pelo Chino," a song that became their signature track.
"El Convoy Del Pelo Chino" tells a story about friends on a road trip, and its catchy rhythm made it a staple at parties. Other songs like "Así Nací" and "De Tijuana Hasta San Diego" also became part of their set. They kept recording through the 1980s, putting out albums like "Los Originales" in 1982 and "La Raza Imperial" in 1985.
Over time, Alta Consigna released more than twenty studio albums. Their music stayed rooted in the tropical style they started with, even as tastes shifted around them.
