Aluá formed in 2005 when vocalists Carol Morena and Rafael Gomes started working with guitarist Fabio Lyra. They're a Brazilian band from São Paulo that mixes folk, reggae, and pop. Their song 'Um Olhar Pra Lua' became popular enough to be considered something of an anthem.
They've put out five studio albums, starting with a self-titled debut that combined traditional Brazilian rhythms with pop. Later records included 'Olhar Pra Lua' and 'Perto do Céu.' In 2012, Fabio Lyra left the group over creative differences, but they kept going.
The current lineup includes Carol Morena on lead vocals and percussion, Rafael Gomes on vocals, guitar, and ukulele, Rafael Pacheco on bass and vocals, Pedro Morais on drums and vocals, and Thiago Gomes on keyboard and vocals. Their songs often deal with love, hope, and finding meaning, which has sometimes drawn both praise and criticism for their views.
