Alucinado

Alucinado formed in Santiago, Chile in the late 1960s with Walter Salas on vocals and guitar, Ricardo Reyes on bass, Carlos Corales on drums, and Edgar Cruikshank on keyboards. They were part of that era's psychedelic rock wave, drawing from rock and blues while working in some local Andean touches.

Their self-titled debut album came out in 1970, anchored by the track 'Alucinado.' That song's winding guitar lines and hazy rhythm caught on as something of an anthem for the scene at the time. They followed it with albums like 'Alameda' in 1971 and 'La Salida' in 1973, keeping a steady output through the early seventies.

Their music sometimes drew criticism from more conservative quarters, who read drug references into lyrics like those on 'Magia Rota.' In 1972, pressure from authorities led to their scheduled performance at the Viña del Mar festival being cancelled, which only reinforced their standing as countercultural figures in Chile. They kept recording through 1974's 'Alucinado 3' before activity trailed off.
