Aluísio Machado

Aluísio Machado came up in Recife, Brazil, and started writing songs as a teenager. By the early 1980s he had formed a band under his own name. Their self-titled debut album arrived in 1987, anchored by the song 'Artifício,' which became his most recognized work.

That track, along with others like 'Minha Filosofia' and 'Se Liga Doutor,' helped establish him as a songwriter with a devoted following. His music often dealt with social themes, which sometimes drew criticism from conservative quarters. In the 1990s he was also accused of plagiarizing the melody for 'Artifício,' though he denied it and the matter faded.

He kept releasing albums through the 1990s and 2000s. One of his later songs, 'E verás que um filho teu não foge à luta,' was written for the samba school G.R.E.S. Império Serrano in 1996.
