Alvin Stardust

Alvin Stardust was born Bernard Jewry in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He started performing in local pubs and clubs before meeting manager Peter Shelley in 1973, who helped create his stage persona. That transformation gave him the flamboyant look and name that became associated with the glam rock scene.

His debut single "Jealous Mind" came out in 1973 and became a hit. He followed it with songs like "My Coo Ca Choo" and "A Wonderful Time Up There," which appeared on the UK charts. The theatrical delivery and catchy hooks in tracks like "I Feel Like Buddy Holly" and "Good Love Can Never Die" kept him on radio playlists through much of the 1970s.

Stardust's career had its rough patches, including a drug possession arrest in 1975 that drew attention away from the music. But he kept recording and performing, maintaining a presence with his energetic live shows and a string of singles that blended glam rock with straightforward pop appeal.
