American Football

American Football formed in the late 1990s around vocalist Mike Kinsella and guitarist Steve Holmes. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1999, anchored by the song 'Never Meant,' which became a quiet touchstone for listeners drawn to its particular blend of emo and post-rock textures.

After that first record, the band went quiet for a long stretch. They eventually regrouped and released a second album in 2016, followed by another self-titled record in 2019. The later work showed a shift toward more polished and sometimes more experimental sounds, as heard on tracks like 'Uncomfortably Numb' and 'Honestly?'

Their music has always been built on a foundation of intricate guitar work and Kinsella's understated, reflective vocals. It's the kind of sound that feels specific to a certain time and place, but has continued to find new listeners long after the band's initial run.
