Amigos

Amigos formed in São Paulo in the early 1970s with Amaury Campos, Valdir do Valle, Leonardo, and João Salgado. They started playing together when Brazilian music was shifting, and their first album came out in 1975. That record included 'Pão de Mel,' which became a hit on Brazilian radio and gave the group some footing.

Their sound had the harmonies and acoustic feel of Brazilian folk, but with arrangements that fit on pop stations. Songs like 'Página de Amigos' and 'Sem Medo de Ser Feliz' kept them on the air through the late 1970s, and they put out several albums with simple titles like Amigos II and Amigos III.

In 1982, there was a plagiarism accusation over the song 'Essa Gente Que Não Sabe Amar,' though the band was cleared. Their popularity eased some after that, but they kept touring and recording. Later tracks like 'Marcas do Que Se Foi' show them working in a quieter, more reflective mode.
