Archive material and source history

Amitaba formed in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1980s. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1990, mixing folk and rock with Brazilian rhythms. The 1993 album 'Andanças' included the title track that became their best-known song, along with others like 'Braços da terra' and 'Arte de Viver'.

Paulo Ricardo sang and played guitar, with Luiz Schiavon on bass and Beto Lee on drums. They released several more albums through the 1990s, including 'Ensaio Aberto' in 1995 and a live album called 'Daqui Pro Futuro' in 1998. Ricardo left the band that same year, but they kept going and put out 'Universo Particular' in 2000.

Their music often dealt with quiet, introspective themes. Songs like 'Crianças ao vento' and 'Janaína' had a gentle, melodic quality that connected with listeners. Some critics found their work overly sentimental at times, but their live shows were known for being intimate and direct.
