Ammara Brown was born Ammara Tendai Murwira in 1989. Her father is the Zimbabwean musician Andy Brown, and her mother, Heather Murwira, sings. She started professionally with the group Eyecontact.
Her 2011 debut single 'Akiliz' became a hit. The song's title means 'You're Wise.' She has released albums like 'Ammara, Brown' in 2012, 'Ammartia' in 2016, 'Shades of Brown' in 2017, and 'In Transit' in 2020.
In 2018, her music video for 'Maoko Matema' drew criticism for being too provocative. She has worked with guitarist Josh Hozheri, producer Oskid, and songwriter Sam Proof.
