Amoroso e Amaraí were a Brazilian duo who started performing together in São Paulo during the 1950s. Amoroso was José Domingos dos Santos, and Amaraí was Amaraí da Silva. They built a following among working-class listeners in the city.
Their song "Lamento de Caboclo" became particularly well-known. It was sometimes heard as a commentary on the treatment of indigenous people, though the duo faced some criticism for that. Other songs like "Os Olhos da Alma" and "Quem Eu Amo Vive Longe" show their style of heartfelt, melodic Brazilian music.
They released several albums in the late 1960s, including Lamento de Caboclo in 1967 and Brasil, País do Samba in 1968. Amoroso sang and played guitar, while Amaraí sang and played tambourine.
