Ananias Nascimento

Ananias Nascimento was born in 1953 in Bom Jardim, Pernambuco, a town in Northeast Brazil. He grew up listening to local musicians like Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro, which shaped his approach to baião rhythms and melodic storytelling. In the early 1980s, he started working with record producer José Carlos, who helped him record his first album.

That debut album, released in 1985, was titled after its lead track "Folha Seca." The song became a hit, a ballad about unrequited love that resonated widely. Other songs from his catalog include "Bartimeu," "Creio Em Deus," and "Deixa Rolar." For the recording of "Folha Seca," he worked with musicians like Chico do Pife on flute and Severo Sampaio on guitar.

In the late 1980s, Nascimento faced accusations of plagiarizing "Folha Seca" from an earlier composition. The claims were eventually dismissed, but the episode lingered. He continued recording into the 1990s and 2000s, with albums like "Nordeste" in 1990 and "O Canto da Sereia" in 1996.
