Anansi formed in Bristol in the late 1990s, taking their name from West African mythology. The band's early years saw some lineup changes before they settled into a core group led by vocalist and guitarist Patrick Walker.
Their 2004 debut album 'Another Night' gave them their breakthrough, with the title track becoming their first notable song. The record established their atmospheric blend of post-punk and alternative rock, built around Walker's haunting vocals and ethereal guitar work.
Over the following decade, Anansi released several more albums including 'The Ghost Dance' in 2006 and 'Black Hearts of Men' in 2009. Songs like 'Carpe Diem' and 'Love Is Clear' continued their atmospheric approach.
